Warner Bros confirm casting for Suicide Squad!

Warner Brothers have announced the casting for the upcoming David Ayr’s, Suicide Squad film. The line-up is pretty similar to the rumours which had been floating around in recent weeks, with an all-star studded cast featuring seasoned actors/actresses, along with some new faces to cinema.

In order: Joker, Deadshot, Harley Quinn, Rick Flagg, Enchantress and Captain Boomerang

Warner Brothers had already confirmed Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and speculation surrounding casting for the Joker had seen Oscar winner, Jared Leto as the front runner for the role. Well it seems that the rumours were true and Leto had been chosen by Warner as their Joker. Alongside Leto and Margot, Will Smith, Tom Hardy, Jai Courtney and model Cara Delevingne have also been cast.

This is what a Warner Bros representative had to say regarding the cast:

“The Warner Bros. roots are deep on this one,” said Warner Bros. Studios worldwide production boss Greg Sullivan in a statement. “David Ayer returns to the studio where he wrote ‘Training Day’ and brings his incredible ability to craft multidimensional villains to this iconic DC property with a cast of long-time Warner collaborators Will Smith and Tom Hardy, and other new and returning favourites.”

suicide-squadSmith had been rumoured to be playing wise cracking Australian criminal Boomerang, but thank fuck that Jai Courtney is playing the Aussie, with Smith taking on the deadly assassin Deadshot (probably for the best that Mr Smith is not going to attempt the Aussie accent). Other notable casting choices have to be Tom Hardy as Rick Flagg and Cara Delevigne as Enchantress.

Hardy has been on an action packed rampage through Hollywood, with his previous background as Bane, making him the seasoned veteran when it comes to DC adapted films.  Cara Delevigne on the other hand was someone I had to google. To my surprise the British born model has stared in the film adaptation of Anna Karenina and seems to fit with “Warner Bros decision to use models instead of more seasoned actors for their films”. Delevigne plays the Enchantress, a powerful sorceress who uses her powers to once defeat an evil being within a castle, however eventually loses control and gives into her darker side. She has battled the likes of Supergirl and John Constantine.

Jared-Leto-Joker

Despite my reservations on Jared Leto playing the Joker, the man has won an Oscar so he can’t be all that bad.

“We look forward to seeing this terrific ensemble, under David Ayer’s amazing guidance, give new meaning to what it means to be a villain and what it means to be a hero,” said Warner Bros president Greg Silverman in a statement.

Overall the solid A-list cast has had the effect it was supposed to have. It has people talking about the Suicide Squad, a somewhat unknown DC universe power group.
